The 80th Congress of IFLA was held in Lyon, France on 16-22 August 2014 Print E-mail
Wednesday, 03 September 2014 07:45
The World Library and Information Congress in 2014 convened under the general theme “Libraries, Citizens, Societies: Confluence for Knowledge” in one of the largest and most beautiful cities of Europe – Lyon, where two rivers Rhône and Saône meet in the shape of Y – the letter used as a logo of this year’s meeting of library, information, heritage preservation, technology… specialists, and as a symbol of unity of European cultural traditions. The theme is associated with the presidential topic “Strong libraries, strong societies”. As some of the members of the French National Committee underlined in the welcoming speech: “Libraries are at the convergence of their patrons, the citizens they serve and the societies in which they operate, promoting anti-discrimination, lifelong learning, free access to information, use of technologies for social change”. IFLA is a confluence of different nations, societies, languages, social and cultural projects. Libraries change as societies change influenced by technological development, but they remain in focus – catalysts of inter-cultural change based on information-sharing.
Lyon Convention Centre hosted all the events and exhibitions, including plenary sessions, presentations, and meetings of professional bodies, poster presentations and trade and industry exhibitors.
